I have. It not only looked heavenly – plush, white satin comforter with loads of decorative pillows, but it felt heavenly, as well. It was like sleeping on a large, fluffy cloud. The mattress provided strong, even support. No saggy middle or sloping sides here. Then there was a generous layer of extra fluffy padding on top. It had a special “pillow-top” and the brand name really is “Heavenly” Bed. They proudly displayed a brochure on the nightstand.
Where did I run across this virtual paradise? At a “virtual” conference in Seattle, WA, no less. The Westin Seattle was home to a recent web designer’s conference. We not only got to enjoy the Heavenly bed, but also several “out of this world” snacks, and some “to die for” meals. I am happy to report that the Westin does not, however, have any “holy” sheets.
Accommodations
The room was spacious, with two double beds. Alas, due to corporate savings mandates, I had a roommate for the visit. There was enough room on the desk for two laptops and we could spread out our belongings for the 5-day stay with no problem. It was, however, a matter of timing and coordination for two females to get in and out of the bathroom every morning and be at the same meeting at the same time. An extra sink would have come in handy, but I won’t “harp” about it.
Our room was spotlessly clean every day by the time we took our lunch break. Our abundant bathroom toiletries were replaced each morning by our angelic housekeeper. She probably wondered where all those things were going. My roommate has a penchant for packing everything away in her travel bag so she can take them home. I bet her guest bathroom is terrific!
Okay, I’m having a devil of a time coming up with any more corny Heaven puns, so I’m going to try to slow down before your vision clouds completely.
Lobby and Amenities
The hotel was large and nicely decorated. There were some really beautiful glass pieces on display in the spacious lobby that could be purchased in the gift shop. I was very, very tempted!
There was also a piano bar in the lobby, as well. Plenty of comfy chairs to sit and enjoy a drink and watch the tourists walk down the sidewalk.
Food
Roy's was our restaurant of choice at the hotel. We had breakfast there every morning. The food was good and service was efficient and friendly. Our favorite waitress soon learned our Atkins Diet routine and was catering to our needs. The bacon, eggs, and omelets were really good. They also had a generous breakfast buffet that I studiously avoided due to its tempting pastries, pancakes and fresh juices. Carbs, carbs, and more carbs! What a time to be on a low-carb diet.
We also had lunch and a couple of dinners at Roy’s. Again the food was very good and they have quite a flair with presentation. Please see my “Soufleless in Seattle” review at http://www.epinions.com/rest-review-682F-1F3F09C3-397AEE28-prod5.
Just across from the gift shop was a coffee bar where you can buy Starbuck’s coffee and a wide assortment of pastries.
There were also a couple of cocktail receptions that boasted a wide variety of tasty hot and cold hors d'oeuvres.
One evening we had shopped ourselves out and opted for room service for dinner and a couple of nice, big salads. Yes, Elaine, it was the BIG salad. The food arrived promptly and accurately. Unfortunately, it included a big basket of fresh bread. Yes, the devil made me do it… I had to eat some of that delicious bread. Carbohydrates be d*mned!
Each day our break offered more tempting treats – a variety of munchies and baked goods. The most wonderful chewy, chocolate fudge bite-size morsels… yes, I sinned again. I did, however, drink Diet Coke and sample a wonderful array of elegant teas.
I’m not a coffee drinker – I know, cardinal sin in Seattle – but there was always a wide variety of Starbuck’s blends from which to choose. There were also packets of Starbuck’s in our room. Our roommate loved the fact that I am not a coffee drinker – all the more for her!
Conveniently Located
The concierge was helpful in guiding us to other restaurants and local attractions nearby. The hotel, located in downtown Seattle, is convenient to shopping, dining and sightseeing. We walked down to the pier one afternoon, went shopping at Nordstroms and even found a Nordstroms’ Rack nearby. The hotel has a really good, central location if you don’t have a rental car. We had a great view of the Space Needle from our room. It was several blocks away, but we could have walked it.
Staff
In addition to the concierge and restaurant employees, the other hotel staff members were friendly and efficient throughout the week. They were even cordial at 5am when I was checking out. Yes, 0500. I think it would have been easier to sprout angel wings and fly back to Memphis than catch that early morning flight, but somehow we did it.
Heaven Smiled Upon Us
On a final note, the heavens really were smiling at us that week in mid-June. The weather was absolutely perfect. The skies were clear, the sun was shining, and it was about 75 degrees. It was a glorious week!
