Wouldn't you love to find the answer to that question? You can. At the Camino Real.
During May I stayed at the Camino Real as part of a business conference. I was staying in the Tower section of the hotel. One of the privileges of staying in the Tower was a free open bar each afternoon with hors d'oeuvres.
The first day I arrived I stopped in at the bar area for a margarita (of course). There lay a bountiful spread of snacks, including a huge tub of guacamole. I've never seen such a large helping of guacamole. It was accompanied by freshly fried tortilla chips. It was delicious! I knew I was hooked. Every day I was there promptly at the stroke of happy hour to partake of guacamole and margaritas.
The waiters would circulate among the tables, refilling the margarita glasses. I thought I had surely died and gone to heaven. There I sat watching the sun set on the Pacific Ocean sipping free margaritas and eating all the guacamole I wanted. Could life get any better?
Lest you think I spent all my time at the bar, I'll tell you more about the hotel and my room. Our room was very large, with a living area - sofa, chairs, dining table, the whole works.
The living area was set apart from the sleeping area by a very long bar/dresser area on which the television was perched. It also contained a fully stocked mini-bar.
The beds were very brightly decorated with green and blue bedspreads that could have come right off the set of The Brady Bunch. There were brightly colored rugs on the tile floors and, even with two queen beds, there was still plenty of "walking around" space in the room.
The bathroom was perfect for two people sharing. It had a large counter top and sink setup as a vanity area, in addition to the sink inside the toilet area. The toiletry products were of excellent quality - I don't recall the brand, but it was such a good one that my roommate scarfed them up every day to take home.
The hotel had a large, well-furnished workout room. I had very good intentions and even walked inside one day. I opted for the guacamole instead. There were several gifts shops in the hotel that displayed a nice variety of goods.
There was also a tequila/computer store. I think they offered one free shot of tequila for each hour you paid to use one of their computers. I found that much a more interesting concept than a coffee shop.
The staff was very friendly and responsive. There was always someone on hand to summon a taxi when needed or to offer advice. A concierge greeted us every morning as we came down for the free breakfast buffet. Yes, I actually did eat something other than guacamole. The breakfast choices were varied and tasty.
The Camino Real also has a very large pool with swim-up bar. Each day they offered a different special. There were more than ample lounge chairs available and pool towels were easily accessible for hotel guests.
Upon checkout they asked me to complete a comment card and they handed me a cute sombrero pen to use. I commented on how much I liked it and the desk clerk told me it was mine to keep.
After leaving the hotel and returning home, I discovered I had left the battery charger for my camera. Although it was a bit tricky, I was able to talk with someone in housekeeping who located the item in lost and found and returned to me.
Note: I left the cost of the room blank because I never knew. My company put our rooms on a master bill. I was happy to see there wasn't an extra surcharge for the massive amounts of guacamole I managed to consume!
